Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), a leading classification society, has made a further investment in renewable energy initiatives at its head office in Mumbai.
Following on from the adoption of two green initiatives at IRClass HQ last year, the classification society has now increased its solar power capacity from the existing 72 kW to 233 kW – tripling the installed capacity.
The system is based on a unique OPEX/ BOOT model with an asset lifespan of 25 years. In environmental terms one-year operation of such a system is the equivalent of planting 450 trees saving CO2 emissions of approx. 128500 kgs.
In 2017, IRClass introduced an in-house solar rooftop plant as well as a reed bed system to continuously improve the environmental sustainability of operations at its head office.
Mr. B V Nargundkar, Sr. VP & Head Administration, HR & Legal said today ‘IRClass is committed to enhancing its efforts to build a clean and green workplace for its staff and the local environment. We will continue to take initiatives towards increased use of renewable energy in our offices’.
