Markel International, a subsidiary of the Markel Corporation (NYSE: MKL), has hired Max Robbie and Yong Ruay Heah as specialist energy underwriters.
Based in Dubai, Robbie has been appointed as head of upstream – Asia, and will report directly to Christian Stobbs, managing director of Markel International in Asia. Robbie will work closely with the businesses’ global energy team to further expand its energy portfolio in the Asia Pacific region.
Robbie has more than eight years of underwriting experience, starting his career at Markel International, where he worked in the London office as an energy underwriter. Prior to his new position, Robbie was the lead energy underwriter at Oman Insurance Company (OIC).
Meanwhile, Heah has joined Markel International’s Singapore office, where he will work across the specialist insurer’s upstream and renewable energy business lines, reporting to Tom Baker, head of renewable energy. Before his appointment, Heah worked at Aon as part of the Construction, Power & Infrastructure team for Asia.

Based on their experience and knowledge in the energy markets, their involvement further supports our desire to bring specialist expertise to brokers and clients in the region.”
